RULES AND REGULATIONS

The Guild of Essential Oil Therapists for Animals has developed this Code of Ethics to ensure its member's act with utmost integrity in dealing with the general public, veterinary surgeons, clients, students and fellow essential oil therapists. GEOTA expects its members to follow this Code of Ethics, conducting themselves in an honest and professional manner at all times in order to maintain the highest standards.

  • Do not make medical diagnoses, refer the owners of the animal patient to the veterinary surgeon.
  • Provide owners and veterinary surgeons with informed consent/disclosure statement and information that includes training and certification, experience, scope of practice, payment structure, benefits, limitations and scope of essential oil treatments. (The Informed Consent form will be provided to members).
  • Recognise your primary obligation to the animal patient, always practising his/her skills to the best of his/her ability for the benefit of the animal patient. The animal patient's welfare is always of utmost importance.
  • Maintain any information obtained during consultation and course of treatment in strict confidence unless given written permission by the veterinary surgeon or owner.
  • Treat other health practitioners and colleagues with professional courtesy at all times, and act in an ethical and dignified manner.
  • Educate and encourage the owners' self-responsibility, supporting her/him as an advisor in the essential oil therapy treatment.
  • Recommend treatment based on the specific needs of the animal patient. Members must not mislead the owner or veterinary surgeon for personal gain.
  • Share professional knowledge, research and experiences with others to advance the information about essential oil therapy.
  • Essential Oil Therapy products should be made for each individual animal patient to suit the condition. Treatments are made for the health and benefit of the individual animal patient and not with the intention of selling a general product. GEOTA is not attempting to control the manufacture and distribution of commercial products by its Members.
  • Members who are Essential Oil Therapy teachers will not adapt the guidelines of the course and will only educate students according to the syllabus recognised by the GEOTA.
